If you're on this page, you likely know what Bike4Chai is - indeed, you've likely been supporting me on my previous 6 rides (or at least tolerate my Friends 'n Fun Weekend Updates about the ride, life, the universe and everything.)

This year will G-d willing be my seventh Bike4Chai, and I ride in memory of Sari Ort and my sister Meredith.

Sari Ort was a young lady near and dear to the Farrell (and Scharf) families. She was a Camp Simcha camper who passed away at the age of 12. Chai Lifeline’s Friends ’n Fun Weekends program was dedicated December 2013 in her memory. For more about her, please see the videos below.

Meredith Farrell (aka Mer) (aka Meri Sunshine) (aka Miriam) was my little sister. Mer worked as a Child Life Specialist with medically ill kids to help the hospital be less of a scary place: explaining procedures and diagnoses to kids in terms they could understand, distracting them during medical procedures to facilitate coping, and providing art therapy and play therapy to hospitalized children. Last April, she passed away at the age of 40 after a double lung transplant and bone marrow transplant. She inspired, and still inspires, thousands through her struggle and positive attitude in the face of adversity.

Both of these women are an inspiration to me. That's why, this summer, I will have the opportunity to partake in a life-changing event: a 180-mile bike ride through New Jersey, the Pocono Mountains, and Upstate NY to benefit children with cancer or other serious illnesses - Chai Lifeline’s flagship programs, Camp Simcha and Camp Simcha Special, offer 430 children a chance to forget about illness and just be kids again.

I'm fortunate to ride as part of Team Knight Riders, some of whom are featured in the picture above. They are an elite cadre of riders (whereas I am fortunate to be merely elite-adjacent) who push to complete the long and arduous route despite whatever physical or medical challenges might otherwise stand in their way. Part of the etymology of the team name is derived from the fact that we take pride in being the LAST team of complete each phase of Bike4Chai, often finishing Day 1 (100-110 miles) after 10 p.m. at night.

I will depart on the two-day ride of a lifetime to camp on Wednesday, August 14, 2019. My objective is to raise $10,000 by then, and I hope you will help me reach this goal. All donations are 100% tax-deductible.

Please contribute by clicking on the donate button now.

Best Regards,
Scott
