This summer, I will again (for the 8th consecutive year) have the opportunity to participate in a two-day, 185-mile bike ride through New Jersey, the Pocono Mountains, and Upstate NY, ending in Glen Spey, NY, the location of Camp Simcha, a remarkable overnight camp that provides seriously ill children with a vacation from sickness, restoring their spirits and renewing their determination to fight.
The purpose of this ride is to raise funds for Chai Lifeline, which is an organization focused on helping children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
Sadly, when my daughter, Ariella, was ill, I learned firsthand the tremendous help and support that Chai Lifeline provides. They visited us in several hospitals, sent food when needed, and helped my other children cope with a situation over which they had no control. Unfortunately, Ariella passed away when she was 8 ½ years old. Following her death, I became committed to helping this wonderful organization and founded the Ariella Horenstein ‘Music in our Lives’ program, which sponsors all the music activities within Chai Lifeline, including performances, hospital visits by musicians, group programs and projects.
To train for this ride, I will bike the hills of Harriman & Bear Mountain State Parks and northward, with a 2019 training goal of 3,000 miles and a cumulative 210,000 feet of climb.
I will be biking to camp on Wednesday and Thursday, August 14th & 15th. My objective is to raise at least $20,000 by then and I hope you will help me reach this goal. All donations are 100% tax-deductible.
Thank you for supporting me and, in doing so, helping children and their families cope with the diagnosis, treatment, and aftermath of serious pediatric illness.
