As a Bike4Chai participant since the beginning I am looking forward to this year's ride with much enthusiasm! I have seen this event grow from less than 50 riders, to Thank G-D close to 600 cyclists. Back in 2010 we were a group mostly made up of New York & New Jersey riders.....and then there was me, representing Baltimore and the rest of the country :o) Today there are cyclists who come from all over the world to participate, including world class and Team Israel riders! It still amazes me how this Charity Cycling event raises more funds per rider than any such event in the world. Obviously this is due to the Organization - Chai Lifeline and it's special Camp Simcha. There is a feeling of camaraderie that we experience every year as we come together from so many different locations and backgrounds to join forces for this wonderful cause

This year I am dedicating my ride in memory of my dear Cycling Buddy Ed Schaffer who unfortunately passed away due to brain cancer. Ed and I rode together for many years, he is one of the strongest riders I ever had the opportunity to ride with, and was a very special soul.

Again, this summer's ride will cover a distance of 180-miles through New Jersey, the Pocono Mountains, and Upstate NY. This is no ordinary ride; it’s an exhilarating cycling event ending at Camp Simcha, a remarkable overnight camp that provides seriously ill children with a vacation from sickness, restoring their spirits and renewing their determination to fight.

Life for a child with cancer or other serious illness is grueling; Chai Lifeline’s flagship programs, Camp Simcha and Camp Simcha Special, offer 430 children a chance to forget about illness and just be kids again. Camp is an oasis of fun, of joy, and of peace for children experiencing dark and turbulent times. To learn more about Camp Simcha and Camp Simcha special, visit campsimcha.org.

This year’s ride is even more thrilling than past years’ rides: it’s a landmark ride, the 10th Bike4Chai! I will depart on the two-day ride of a lifetime to camp on Wednesday, August 14, 2019. My objective is to raise $5,000 by then, and I hope you will help me reach this goal. All donations are 100% tax-deductible.

Please contribute by clicking on the donate button now.

Thank you for supporting me and, in doing so, helping children and their families cope with the diagnosis, treatment, and aftermath of serious pediatric illness.

Best Regards,

Alan Aharon Newman

Sarah Naomi is the world's biggest Minion fan. If she could choose to be a minion when she grows up, she would. She loves art, family, and egg rolls. She hope to be a home designer some day. Two years ago, on the first night of Chanukah, Sarah Naomi's wish came true - she received a new heart through a miraculous heart transplant. Since that time, Chai Lifeline and Camp Simcha have become a strong part of her life. The opportunity to go to Camp Simcha makes her smile ear-to-ear.
