On August 14th & August 15th, I will be biking 180 miles through New Jersey, the Pocono Mountains, and Upstate NY. This is no ordinary cycling event; it is an exhilarating ride ending at Camp Simcha, a remarkable overnight camp that provides seriously ill children with a vacation from sickness, restoring their spirits and renewing their determination to fight!

This is the 10th year of Bike4Chai, and we are looking to make it a very special year for everyone. We are going to make Bike4Chai 2019 a year to remember!

The campaign goal is 10 for 10... $10 million for the 10th year. When we accomplish this, Bike4Chai will have raised (since 2010) a collective $50 million for children fighting serious illnesses all across the globe!!
Let’s make this happen. 10 for 10!!

2019 marks my 7th consecutive year riding at Bike4Chai. Last year, ‘Team Canada' raised over $935,000. As a group, 525 riders raised over $9.9 million! This year, our goal for Team Canada is $1,000,000! We can’t do it without you!

It has been almost 6 years now since I crossed the finish line in the 2013 Bike4Chai ride, but the memory of that day will never be forgotten. I remember the extraordinary feeling of rolling into Camp Simcha after 2 days and 290km (180 miles) of riding, watching the smiles on these kids' faces. I was looking for one particular boy who travelled all the way from Montreal to watch me cross that finish line. After a few minutes of confusion, I was notified that my dear brother in law fell into a coma on his way to the finish line which was his final journey and dream.

This year, I am riding in honour of that very special person. My close friend and dear brother in law, Joshua, an exceptional individual, suffered a lifelong chronic illness and went through so much in his 20 years. Not physically big, he was a giant in character. He never complained, was always grateful and had a terrific sense of humour. With difficulty communicating, his message and example came through loud and clear.

This year, I am also riding in honour of Peri. Peri was born with nemaline rod myopathy, the Eastern European form of muscular dystrophy. She needs both a wheelchair and respirator, but Peri still keeps up with her peers. She’s a dancer, an artist, and an enthusiastic Camp Simcha Special camper. She can’t decide between psychology, law, or children’s advocacy as a career, but she is determined to make the world a better place.

Camp Simcha and its sister camp, Camp Simcha Special, are the organization’s flagship programs. Every year these two camps offer 430 children a chance to forget about illness and just be kids again.

Camp Simcha is truly a Disneyland on steroids where every day is magical. Every kid is made to feel special, like this camp was created just for them. No wish is too big and no request is denied.

I’m writing to ask you to sponsor my ride to raise money for this incredible camp.

My objective is to raise at least $10,000, and I hope you will help me reach this goal. We may not be curing cancer but with your generosity, we can certainly give these kids and their families the love, hope and support they need to fight this battle.

All donations are 100% tax-deductible.

Thank you for supporting me and in doing so, helping fight illness with love!

Eli
